Not able to access the site through the new Web Front End Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All

We have Project Server 2007 in a 3-Tier model as below.

    APPSSERVER
    Win Server 2003 SP2
    IIS 6.0
    Project Server 2007 SP1 (Complete)
    WSS SP1

    DBSERVER Setup
    Win Server 2003 SP2
    SQL Server 2005 SP2

    WFESERVER setup
    Windows Server 2003 SP2
    IIS 6.0
    Project Server 2007 SP1 (WFE)
    WSS SP1

We can access the PWA through the url http://APPSSERVER/PWA. We have extended this site and added alternate access map and WFE was added to the farm as Web Front end Server. But we are NOT able to access http://WFESERVER/PWA

Since PWA was not working from WFESERVER, I did the following.

    1. Disconnected WFESERVER from the Farm through 'Sharepoint Products & Technologies Configuration'.
    2. Removed WFESERVER from the Sharepoint Farm Topology
    3. From WFESERVER,  through 'Sharepoint Products & Technologies Configuration', tried to 'connect to the exisitng Server Farm'
    4. But Task 2 of 8, it failed and got the following error.

==start ==== of error found in event log ==
Failed to connect to the configuration database.
An exception of type System.InvalidOperationException was thrown.

    5. Again From WFESERVER,  through 'Sharepoint Products & Technologies Configuration', selected 'Do not disconnect from  the exisitng Server Farm' and proceeded to join the Farm. This time it said successful.
    6. Then started 'Windows SharePoint Services Web Application ' service on WFESERVER. It says "Starting", but not changing  to "Started" stage.

I appreciate if any one can help us in fixing this and getting the PWA up and running on http://WFESERVER/PWA/

    Thanks in advance
    Thomas
