Silverlight says I need to install but won't let me install

  • I'm having the same problem that others have talked about for a few days.  It has struck both my computers since they went through a MS update. I need to use Silverlight to operate my medical records program. However since yesterday I get a prompt on my browser, after I activate my EMR, and it instructs me to download the new version of Silverlight. When I do and start the installation, it won't allow it to operate, saying the same version of Silverlight is already installed. I have tried uninstalling it and then re-installing it. I have tried it on several browsers, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Dolphin and it get the same problem.  I have gone through a diagnostic to see if the Silverlight is corrupted.

It seems to be a problem between the MS update and Silverlight.  I need this to work NOW.

  • Hi  MDLPCS1,

You can try the following steps to fix the silverlight.

Firstly,Install the latest security patches for your system.

Then, you can try to fix silverlight :

If it doesn't work, I suggest you reinstall the latest version

Download the latest Silverlight plugin and Install it.

    Best Regards,

  • 1: Which Browser are You using? Firefox last weeks quit supporting SilverLight with update to Ver 52.  Google Chrome dropped support for Silverlight a year ago. Microsofts new Web Browser MS EDGE does NOT support Silverlight.

2: You can download a copy of Firefox 52.0 ESR (Firefox Extended Support Release 52.0ESR) which has re enabled Silverlight.

         SEE web page

3: Internet Explorer 11 still works but We have found it to be to unstable to trust at this time and is a lot slower than Firefox. We need Firefox as an alternative to IE 11.

4: Firefox will only give access to 52.0 ESR to people that sign up with them to use it and will be available for approx 1 year.

5: In the mean time we are in the search for software to run our clinics that do NOT use Silverlight.

Good luck. I hope this helps.
