Convert date/time field in email template to local time zone RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have added a step in my sharepoint workflow which triggers email based on certain conditions. The email template has a field called Submitted date. When email is triggered it send submitted date in SP server time zone which was set up from

    Site settings<-Regional Administration

So whenever a request is created users get submitted date  field in the email according to a fixed time zone

But  want that the submitted date field should be adjusted according local timezone.

Ex-- if a user is in IST then submitted date field of email should be in IST format and user is in EST then submitted date field in the email should be in EST time zone.

  • Hi,

Are you using SharePoint Designer workflow? Is “Submitted date” a built-in field of the workflow?

To adjust a date and time field based on the user’s local time, it requires the user to set its own region via User account (top right in SharePoint 2010 site) > My settings > My Regional Settings. Deselect "Always follow web settings" and then select its own Time zone.

You can also set time zone for the user via Central Administration > Manage service applications > User Profiles Service Application > Manage User Profile as an Administrator.

Please refer to the links below for detailed information.

Change your personal language and region settings.

Setting proper SharePoint Time Zone for users.

Submiited date is a field which captures the "Created" date time.. Created is a system generated field which has been stored in submitted date.

In the mail above the time of receiving email is 5:30PM IST but submitted date shows as 11:50 AM .

The submitted date time is showing a different time zone and it should show as 5:30 PM IST .

Basically the sharepoint timestamp should be converted in local time zone.

  • Hi,

Is “Submitted date” a custom column inserted in the email with the Workflow String Builder?

Have you checked the region settings on this site? If your local time is “5:30PM IST”, which region is “11:50 AM” from?

    Best regards,

    Chelsea Wu
