unable to install silverlight 1.0

    General discussion

  •  I have windows XP pro sp2. I installed the sliverlight beta version when it first came out, but was unable to

uninstall it by going to add/remove programs.  I used search and RegSeeker to delete the files which

then removed it from add/remove programs. Now when I try to install silverlight 1.0 the install wizard

says unable to install silverlight on this computer. Thanks for any help.

  • Are you on AMD Athlon? Silvelight can't work on AMD Athlon but works on AMD Turion. Can you give more info about your PC configuration?

  • Sorry I got your question mixed up with some other question, can you tell us if you were able to use Silverlight Plugin before (when you installed Beta)? What is the error you are getting?

  •  I was unable to use the Silverlight (beta) Plugin. The error message I'm getting now is "Microsoft Sliverlight could not be installed on your computer"

  • Does this folder exist:

If it does, can you delete it and run the installer again?

  • Go to registry and delete all silverlight references under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer

  • This tip is mentioned elsewhere on this forum... For me, the only way I could install Silverlight v2.0 successfully on my PC was to use the Cleanup utility to forcefully remove the existing install (v1.0) first: It was confusing though: I was running the "Silverlight.2.0.exe" install file, clicked on the "Install Now" button and it was telling me that it couldn't find the "silverlight.msi" file. I extracted this .msi file from the "Silverlight.2.0.exe", but still had the same problem. The problem was, this v2.0 installer was demanding to run the "silverlight.msi" file from the v1.0 install, so it could uninstall v1.0 before installing v2.0. Confusing messages though, with the same .msi filename in both installs. Anyway, as I said, the Cleanup Tool removed v1.0, and after doing so, v2.0 installed without any problems.
