Error installing documentation updates for Microsoft Help Viewer 2.0 in Visual Studio 2012 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hallo,

for my Visual Studio 2012 offline help documentation there are several updates available. But the update installation fails with an error message:

File C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\HelpLibrary2\Catalogs\VisualStudio11\Incoming\Cab\v2Develop with Windows Server Technologies_9E35E875_en-us_vs.85_0(3703e4c7-d002-45bf-c1f9-96a656378c88).cab not signed by Microsoft.
The error message indicates a problem with a missing or invalid signature.

But this file is not available in the directory

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\HelpLibrary2\Catalogs\VisualStudio11\Incoming\Cab

Locks like the download of this file is either not possible or the entry in the help files catalog is not valid.

How can I fix this problem?

    Best regards,

    Volker Voß

  • Hi Volker,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

Can you share more details about which books you are trying to download? It seems that the error is caused by missing cab file that treated as unsigned. Or it is signed actually, but is published with an old certificate. If so, suggest that you send a feedback to Microsoft Product Team on Developer Community  and get the book with a new signature.

In addition, before sending a feedback, you can try the following workaround: remove the installed content > uninstall the Help Viewer in your Control Panel > install the latest Visual Studio 2012 Update 5 > add the content again.

BTW, the Visual Studio 2012 is an old version, we recommend that you use the latest version of Visual Studio to start your work where you will get a better experience.

    Hoping everything goes well.

    Sincerely,

    Anna

  • Hi Volker,

    Thanks for your update.

Please have a look at this similar issues(notice that it occurred in Help Viewer 2.3):

    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/problem/309043/v2net-api-refence-en-us-16cb849883-6fa5-c5a5-01ba.html

If it still persists, we suggest you report it to Microsoft Product Team in the developer community and wait for a new signature to be pushed.

Thank you for your understanding and have a nice day.

    Sincerely,

    Anna
