Cannot install Silverlight on my Windows 8 Laptop RRS feed

  • Question

  • I get the error code 1603. I attempted an install earlier and it stopped at 99% and did not ever finish so I closed the program. Once I did that and tried reinstalling it it gave me the fatal error 1603. I have tried deleting the folder and cannot delete the folder from the program files(x86) because even as the administrator I cannot delete the folder. I also cannot give the command in cmd to give me ownership of the folder since there is a space in program files. Is there any way to get silverlight to work on my computer?

  • Hi Beramaan,

There are some other solutions for trying:

    1) look at the Security of the C:\Windows\Installer folder. Perhaps the installation program has not the rights to delete a file there. You can add full access to everyone on this folder, then try to install Silverlight, and then undo the changes to security

    2) Open regedit and navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Feature Control\FEATURE_ENABLE_SCRIPT_PASTE_URLACTION_IF_PRESENT"

It will say you do not have permissions, so right click and add yourself will full control

For more detail, you may refer to this(http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/silverlight/en-US/e372c984-4a2e-4979-8f9a-785a3d59a25f/error-code-1603 )

Besides, it is suggested to setup the privacy settings of your web browser when we use the Netflix according to this(http://www.silverlightcrash.com/ )

    Hope it helps.

  • Hi,

    I have two suggestions:

1.You can uninstall the Silverlight in Control Panel according to this:

    http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/uninstall-arp-win.aspx

The samples are in Vista and XP. But the steps to uninstall are similiar with samples.

2.Another way to clean a corrupted Silverlight:

I hope it is helpful to you.

  • I tried the fix it thing and it says that it fixed it but when I try to access netflix it still says that I do not have silverlight on my computer. Also when I try to click the link provided to install silverlight again or update it it still gives me the 1603 error code. I have also tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it as well.
