Issue with Microsoft Visual Studio 2017 Installer Projects RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

we are having problems with this extension and our cmdline builds, and hope you can help. when running this from tfs build cmdline task or from the cmd line as an administrator with a sln with installer projects the build hangs. It builds everything correctly, you see the message that the build completed, but the task does not complete right away, it takes anywhere from 10 minutes to , the build timeout limit, unless we manually cancel. running the same commands against a project without installers run correctly. Ext version 0.8.4, visual studio 2017 version 15.3.4 installed on windows server 2012

    thank you

  • Visual Studio Installer projects come with the explicit warning that they're unsupported on a build server and can cause unexpected behavior, like the one you're describing here.

    This caveat accomplishes the extension:

ISLE is a great solution for those customers looking for added capabilities not found in Visual Studio Installer Projects, such as TFS and MSBuild integration, support for creating new web sites and ISO 19770-2 Tagging support, etc.

Another useful solution would be to use WiX

  • this is also happening on a brand new 2012 server that has a clean install of visual studio 2017, and no build agents. no logs, no errors, it just sits there and waits.
