  • It is a web installer, not the full one.

  • Sorry, not the language I can understand.

  • The installer you download is just a downloader.  When you run it, it will prompt if you want to download a full version install.

  • How did they get that URI? Why is it not on MSDN download page?

Or, more importantly, how do I get language specific direct full download links?

  • Hi Alex V. Ivanoff,

We can download SQL Server 2016 Express from this VisualStudio.com, an official website of Microsoft.

Please open this link, then search SQL Server Express as shown in the below picture.

Then you will find the link of SQL Server 2016 Express, you can select language in this download link.

Download the installer from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=52679 and run it: when executed, will present options to perform an installation or download media only.

    Bye.

  • I know this. But I need a link to FULL download (which exists according to http://www.iconsult.nl/forum/installatie-sql-server). The reason we need a full download link is that web installer does not support specifying proxy credentials.

  • Good day Alex.

It is very common issue that people need a full installation in order to install in a machine that does not have any internet connection or limited connection.

there are three options I can mention here:

    1. Download the web installer in a machine that has internet connection -> click the file in order to start the installation -> first option that you get has the option to "Download Media" which is what you want

    2. If you have MSDN account then you can download the full file directly from MSDN. In this case, go to this link:

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/securedownloads/?#searchTerm=&ProductFamilyId=650

This will filter the download to SQL Server 2016. Another option is simply to choose "SQL Server 2016" in the main download page.

Next you will see a direct download for the full file as you can see in these images:

    3. open a free developer account in MSDN and then you can download the files as in option 2

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/publish/opening-a-developer-account

    Have a great day,

  • Hi Alex,

I'm one of the developers that works on the SQL Server Installer. I'd better like to understand your scenario. If the SQL Server Installer allowed you to enter credentials for your proxy server, would that be sufficient to solve your problem? Or do you require a direct download link for some other purpose?

Feel free to reach out to me directly (jpapiez @ microsoft . com).

    Thanks,

    Jeff

  • Either direct download link or ability to specify proxy credentials, both in UI and command line, would be sufficient.

  • Hi Alex V. Ivanoff,

Based on my experience, we can download this installation media from official website, msdn and visual studio subscriptions. If these download link cannot help you, I would recommend you to submit it to the Microsoft Connect at this link https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback.

  • Jeff,

Here in China, the setup program will NOT work without VPN:

"We failed to download files we require. Please check your network connection and try again."

An option to download the whole setup file offline would have been very nice.

  • Hi Jeff,

I'm trying with 1.1701.3586.1 - and there's no option to put my proxy credentials into the downloader.

    Am I missing something obvious?

    Thanks,

    Andy
