AAD Sync failing with 1603 error code RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

When I setup the AAD on a DC (it's a small single domain) I've an error 1603.

I did try to setup a dirsync on that server too.I've removed all SQL stuff, renamed all Sync related directories on Program Files, and also removed all related user accounts and groups in AD, then tried again : still failing with same error.

The domain is coming from 2012 Essentials, migrated on 2 2012 R2 DC but the domain is still at 2012 functional level.

What else can I check, and is it enought and a good idea to remove that DC and create a new one.

I see that the query or issue needs a further deeper dive technically. We need fiddler trace to analyze what has caused this issue.

I recommend you to create a technical support ticket.

  • Hi Laurent,

    Thanks for posting here!

Please make sure you have uninstalled the old version of DirSync on a computer where you want to install AAD Sync.

You can try the steps below:

    1.  Uninstall the Directory Synchronization Tool.

    2.  Uninstall all SQL Server files from the server.

    3.  Delete the following directories on the server:  %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Directory Synchronization and %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server folders.

    4.  Shutdown the server.

  • Hi Thanks for your help.

Unfortunatly, this is 100 % what I did : remove dirsync, delete sql, delete directories, restart server.

I also tried tu run the install with run as.

One more point the server is in French but with decimal separator in English (it was required for dirsync to work).

  • Laurent,

Did you get this to work? I'm running into the same thing. Brand new 2012 R2 server. Tried dirsync first but then it failed. Tried Azure AD Connect and it failed as well.
