SQL Server encrypting using SSL RRS feed

  • Question

  • Having issues with enabling SSL encryption for SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 R2.

The certificate I am using looks ok and appears to meet the requirement for SQL Server.  When I try to start the SQL Server instances I receive 5 errors in the application event log and 1 in the System event log.  All the errors point to an issue with the certificate.

Used certreq -new certreq.inf  servername.txt to generate the request.  We use a 3rd party CA.

Only thing I can think of is that the KeyUsage flag is set wrong.  Currently it set to 0xa0 and displays as Digital Signature and Key Encipherment (a0).

Due to the security of our system, we are prohibited from using a self signed certificate, even in our test labs.

    Any Ideas or suggestions?
