Managing many overlays and animation

    General discussion

  • Total newbie to SL. I currently have a website that uses the Java AniS applet to display imagery with multiple selectable layers of rgba PNG files. Users can turn on or off any of the 10 or so layers in a single frame. In addition, AniS can cycle through many frames. Here's an example of AniS in action:

It's not clear to me how to implement something similar in SL. Just starting with the basics:

     1) How do I cycle through a sequence of image files at a user controlled rate? Do I create a main Canvas, add a rectangle, then fill the rectangle with a different image to cycle through the images?

     2) How to manage the multiple layers? Should I create a Canvas for each frame in the animation then add rectangles with images for each layer? When a user unchecked a particular layer, I would simply set that layer rectangle's opacity to zero. Is this the correct way to handle multiple layers?

Like I said, a total newbie on SL and these Flash-like environments.
