Silverlight, video not showing up

    General discussion

  • Hi,

I'm having difficulties to run videos on a website [1] using silverlight. I'm looking for some tips as how I could investigate this.

The thing is that it's not working on two systems out of three. I can't see how the working pc is configured differently from the others so far. All are running Vista, with IE7 and silverlight 2.0.40. On the computers not working, the video test [2] can be seen but once launched, it keeps loading for ever. The one working... works just fine, it seems that others guys run into this issue for this specific website too [3].

A script error is notified in the browser (you then need to double click on the bottom left yellow icon to have some details) but it doesn't say much to me. Among the lines one can read (couldn't copy past nor take a screenshot of the totality) the following:

"Unhandled Error in Silverlight 2 Application [Format_InvalidString] System.Windows.CoreInvokeHandler.InvokeEventHandler"

I could run other silverlight videos [4], Would this be an issue with the browser settings?Any trick to compare settings between the machines? Suggestions to troubleshoot this further are welcome.

  • Additional information:

I've tried, on one of the system not working to :

    - desinstall silverlight
    - reset IE settings
    - resinstall silverlight (run as administrator)
    - confirm that silverlight is loaded in the add-ons (IE > Tools > Manage Add-Ons> Enable or Disable Add Ons and Addons that run without requiring permission).

But still, no go. I have the video loading and freezing at 100% with the script error as advised previously.
Any idea of how to list IE settings in a text file so that I can compare it with the system working? Cheers S.

  • At this time, without any additional troubleshooting nor significatives actions on those not working PCs, one would expect the issue to persist. Well, that's not the case, it does work now. Guess the application issue has been "corrected" but still won't be able to explain why it was working on one computer out of 3. It does work now, giving up any further troubleshooting.
