Restoring and Azure VM Backup to On-premise RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

This may sound like an off question, however I want to know if it is possible to restore an Azure VM backup to on-premise for example restore to an on-premise Hyper-V server, restoring the Azure VM as a guest on this on-premise hyper-v server?

If not the whole VM, then could I restore a System State backup taken of an Azure VM to an on-premise Server?

    Thanks all

  • Restoring Azure VM backup to on-premise is not a supported scenario. However, you can do a restore to disk and copy the VHD to your on-premise location and spin up a VM on Hyper-V. This might require you to change the disk format and may not be consistent.

Another workaround you may want to try: Install MARS agent on Azure VM and backup the data. The same data can be restored to an alternate location (could be on-premise VM)
