Low performance of TFS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello , all.
In our company we have TFS for 3 years already, lately it makes some problems in performance , every action takes too much time to do (check-in/out, add new item to source control, run reports and so on)
Does anyone know what can be a reason of that , or maybe there are some tools which can help us to understand the problem

    Thank you

    Kate

  • Hi Kate,

This is a copy from another thread (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/tfsadmin/thread/115de932-25f6-4f2a-89d2-b07f80b1f9c6) but you've got close to the same question so it still applies :)

First up I'd get some stats around exactly where your performance issues are. This might help in identifying your exact issue. You can do this using a heat map written by Grant Holliday. You can get the details and the tool from his old blog here (http://ozgrant.com/2008/04/05/tfs-performance-heat-map-reporting-services-report/). This will help you find the problem areas. There's also an article on monitoring TFS performance from MSDN here (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa833878.aspx).

Next I'd run the best practices analyser over your setup and see what kind of recommendations it comes up with. It comes with the Power Tools and can be downloaded from here (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/tfs2008/bb980963.aspx). Hopefully this will give you some tips around what you can do to get the most out of your TFS install.

    Hope this helps,
    Steve.
