Property value too large RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am entering Field Name Descriptions in an Access table and am getting the error message "Property Value too large."  I am Compacting & Repairing the database as I go but am apparently running out of available space.  How is this even possible?  The database is only 120MB large, and the table in question has 218 fields and 5167 records.  I can divide the table in 2...would this be advisable?  The table works just fine if I do not populate the Field Name Description entries but utilize a Field Name Dictionary lookup table instead.  I simply can't believe that Access is limited in this fashion.  Your suggestions are much appreciated.

  • Hi nittojet,

There are instance of such problems for Access with too many Fields/Columns in one Table.

Having 218 fields/columns is a receipt for major disaster.

You should consider Normalization. Break them up into multiple Tables.

  • Does it matter which length the entered field name descriptions have and how many you enter?
