  • My solution was to run Remove_KB944899.exe

    then install VS08 SP1beta

    then install silverlight_chainer

All is well, installation on 2 other machines went perfect

  • I am having the same result, same log file error.
64-bit Vista Ultimate with Silverlight and Blend 2.5 March preview uninstalled.
    I have not applied VS2008 SP1 beta.
    Ran as administrator also.

  • I've not see the above error before.  Not sure if it will help but this blog post may provide some clues.

Upgrading to Silverlight Tools Beta 2 and Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Beta

    Hope it helps,
    Brad.

  • I have a partially removed Beta 1 state.

Can you expound on this?  Also, what KBs are installed for Visual Studio?

    Saturday, June 7, 2008 1:12 AM
  • Success!

I just uninstalled KB949325 and was able to install successfully.
I thought this only had to be unistalled if VS2008 SP1 beta was installed.

  • The command failing from the log above:

    silverlight_uninstallrtmpatches.exe /q /uninstall

is attempting to uninstall KB949325.  By uninstalling it first the installer skiped this step.

    Glad you up and running.

  • I have - AFAIK - no patches for VS 2008 installed (unless through automatic updates).
I did uninstall all Silverlight 2.0 Beta 1 and Expression Blend March CTP.

I am running Windows XP SP3. I get this error:

Exe (c:\68bc9d33b48b9ebed5\silverlight_uninstallrtmpatches.exe) failed with 0x80070643 - Fatal error during installation. :
[6/7/2008, 9:2:15] (IronSpigot::ExeInstallerBase::PerformAction) PerformOperation on exe returned exit code 1603 (translates to HRESULT = 0x80070643)
    [6/7/2008, 9:2:15] Action complete
[6/7/2008, 9:2:15] (IronSpigot::LogUtils::LogFinalResult) Final Result: Installation failed with error code: (0x80070643), Fatal error during installation.

     Any clues anyone?

  • silverlight_uninstallrtmpatches.exe is run when the installer detects KB949325.

    For XP:

    1. Open the Add/Remove Programs dialog from the Control Panel
    2. Click 'Show updates' at the top of the window
    3. Remove KB949325 (it will be listed under your version of VS)

Let me know if you find this KB listed when "showing updates"

    Brad.

Perhaps you can download and burn the trial version to disk and use that:

  • Thx. If I run Daemon Tools Lite to have a virtual CD/DVD drive, I don't even have to burn a DVD.

  •  I managed to install it. Now when I start VS and try opening an existing Silverlight project, I get:

    Package Load Failure
    Package 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Silverlight.SLPackage, Microsoft.VisualStudio.Silverlight, Version=9.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' has failed to load properly (GUID =
    {CB22EEOE-4072-4AE7-96E2-90FCCF879544}). ...

and when I try creating a new Silverlight project, I get:

    Could not load type 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Web.Silverlight.IVsSilverlightService' from assembly 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Web.Application, Version=9.0.0.0, Culture=meutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a'

  • To those who have had installation trouble, I am trying to understand to the source of the problem.  If could answer a few questions (you can email me at amdullar @ microsoft.com ) about your installation environment, that would be great...

    • What version of Visual Studio 2008 are you using?  Standard, Professional, Team System, Trial?
    • What languages did you have installed?  C#, VB, C++?
    • Did you have the Visual Web Developer feature for Visual Studio installed?
    • Had you previously installed Silverlight Tools Beta 1?
    • Did you have Visual Studio SP1 Beta installed?

  • Your patch did not install correctly.  If you haven't already, take a look at http://weblogs.asp.net/bradleyb/archive/2008/06/09/upgrading-to-silverlight-beta-2-and-visual-studio-2008-sp1-beta.aspx for tips.

What version of Microsoft.VisualStudio.Web.Application.dll (found in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\) do you have?

  • saurus:  you need to install the Visual Web Developer component.  When you ran the chainer, did it give you a dialog with several things that might cause install problems?

    Tuesday, July 15, 2008 1:35 PM
  • jamlew: NO it didn't show me any dialogs about causes of install problems. What Visual Web Developer component should I install. Why do I need it? I have VS 2008 installed. Could you give link to it?

  • When you install Visual Studio, you can install various features included C#, VB, Visual Web Developer, etc.  The items installed are displayed in the splash screen when you start up VS (also in Help > About).  If VWD is not installed, put the installation disc in and add the feature.
