Question on .ics file compactible with both Outlook (Windows) and IMail (Mac) - HTML Format RRS feed

  • Question

  • Issue Description

I have a Nintex workflow which send notification to users  with an attached calendar invite  (.ics file).  The file will be used to open and add the invite to the outlook calendar.  The .ics file is created from Nintex and added as attachment.

The .ics file is generated using the following standard format.

    BEGIN:VCALENDAR
    PRODID:-//Microsoft Corporation//SharePoint MIMEDIR//EN
    VERSION:2.0
    METHOD:REQUEST
    BEGIN:VEVENT
    UID:65;TYPE=SharePoint:9
    ORGANIZER:emailaddress
    DTSTART:20170628T140000Z
    DTEND:20170628T160000Z
    LOCATION;ENCODING=8BIT;CHARSET=utf-8:Location
    SUMMARY;LANGUAGE=en-us:Subject
    TRANSP:OPAQUE
    SEQUENCE:5
    X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2//E
     N">\n<HTML>\n<HEAD>\n<META NAME="Generator" CONTENT="MS Exchange Server version 14.02.5004.000">\n<TITLE></TITLE>\n</HEAD>\n<BODY>\n<u>This is a sample description</p><br /><br/></BODY></HTML>
    END:VEVENT
    END:VCALENDAR

    Findings

The ics format  has  X-ALT-DESC property used to render calendar body in html does not seems to be supported in iMail (Mac).

    Question

Is there any standard format html can be rendered both to outlook and IMail?  Using Description will only provide data as plain text.

  • Hi,

As .ics file is generated by Nintex workflow and Nintex is a third party workflow platform, I would suggest you can create a new thread in Nintex forum, you will get more detailed information from there and more experts will help you:

    Thanks

    Best Regards
