List View - Group By - without field name? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have created a new view for a list and when I use the Group By functionality, MOSS is prepending the name of the field in the group level.  So for example, if I create a group by a field called Category, each line has the word Category: then the value.  This looks hokey.  Any way to strip away the field name from the category level?

    Hi,
    If you want to hide the field name when group by the list view, you can try to edit the list view using SharePoint Designer:

    1.     Open the site in SharePoint Designer and open the list view .aspx page.

    2.     In Design View right-click the List View Web Part and select convert to XSLT Data View from the context menu.

    3.     Switch to Split View and locate the field name in the group level, you will see this xslt code” <b><xsl:value-of
         select="$fieldtitle"></xsl:value-of></b> xsl:if test="$fieldtitle">: </xsl:if>”.
    4.     Delete this xslt code, and you will hide the field name.

    Hope it helps.

    I'm assuming that it works ....  (and marking it as an answer).

  • Thanks, that does work.  However, I found that once you do that, you can no longer modify the view in MOSS.  Is there a workaround for that?

  • That does not work when you try to use your new created view in the ListView Webpart. You juste have an error message when you try to select the corrected view in the web part properties pannel (something as "impossible to submit the new parameters for this web part componant ..."). However, when you select the view directly in the list you don't have any problem.
    Is there a way to show the group by view IN the listView WP without the column name ?
