Multiple Lines Text column not saving data after hiding the extra "Save Cancel" buttons on above of NewItem.aspx form RRS feed

  • Question

  • NewItem.aspx form displays a pair of Save Cancel buttons on above of the form which I tried hiding through Sharepoint Designer by setting style="display:none;" . I edit the NewItem form in advanced mode

    <tr style="display:none;">
    	<td class="ms-toolbar" nowrap="nowrap">
    		<table>
    			<tr>
    				<td width="99%" class="ms-toolbar" nowrap="nowrap"><IMG SRC="/_layouts/15/images/blank.gif" width="1" height="18"/></td>
    				<td class="ms-toolbar" nowrap="nowrap">
    					<SharePoint:SaveButton runat="server" ControlMode="New" id="savebutton1"/>
    				</td>
    				<td class="ms-separator">&#160;</td>
    				<td class="ms-toolbar" nowrap="nowrap" align="right">
    					<SharePoint:GoBackButton runat="server" ControlMode="New" id="gobackbutton1"/>
    				</td>
    			</tr>
    		</table>
    	</td>
    </tr>

    Now the multiple lines text column does not save any data. Although rest of the data gets saved

    How do I hide Save Cancel buttons to properly store data?

  • I deleted the default NewForm.aspx, DispForm.aspx, EditForm.aspx forms of a list which has a few Multiple Line Text columns. I recreated the forms in Sharepoint designer and now all data is saved when I click on save button except the multiple line text columns.

    Description is multi line text column and it is not saving data

  • Hi akg1421,

    May i know which SP version you're using? And how do you save the new item if you have hidden 'Save Cancel' buttons? Do you mean that you create a custom form for the list but it cannot save some fields correctly?

    Best Regards,

  • @Baker_Kong

    I'm using Office365 - SP Online

    There are by default two pair of "Save Cancel" buttons one pair is at top one is at bottom. I have applied style="display:none" to the above pair. And now the multiple line text colulmns are not saving data

  • Hi akg1421,

    Here i prepare a list with multiple line text column, i deleted all default forms and recreated them:

    Yes it will display 2 pairs 'Save' button:

    However the bottom 'Save' button could save data correctly even i hide the top one.

    Result:

    Hence could you please have a try it on another list/site to see if this issue will occur?

    Best Regards,
