How to locate list item on lookup field in workflow? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Designing with SPD.

I've created lookup field with "Enforce unique values" option set. I want to locate list item by lookup value in workflow.

Tryed to search by ID - it doesn't work

Tryed to search by [%Variable:ItemID%];#[%Variable:ItemTitle%] - it doesn't work

    How to do this?

  • You need to use the action: Update list item, Choose list1 from the drop down list, and update the values that you want. For the part titled "Find the list item", choose the "Title" in the drop down list. In the "Value" text field, click on "fx" button, keep the current item in the first drop down list, and choose the title from the second. This means change list1's where the item's title = current item's title.

  • You want to use the lookup, based on what? Explain your case more. Which lists are you trying to connect together?

    Preconditions:

i have list1 with field 'Title'

i have list2 with fields 'Title' and 'List1Reference' (refer to list1, required, unique)

i created list workflow and attached to list2

when user changes list2 item the workflow should locate corresponding item in list1 and update the Title

    Question:

how to locate list1 item that pointed with reference from list2?

Search by not unique title? Strange suggestion, IMHO

  • My suggestion implicitly assuming you have unique title for your documents, you haven't mentioned anything else in your requirements!

You're not giving any details about your list columns, what columns they contain. You should provide more details so people here can help you instead of stating that their suggestions are strange. Sorry for trying to help anyway!
