Sharepoint 2013 site permissions RRS feed

  • Question

  • Have an odd issue, have a user with a publishing site they have full control access but editing a page results in them having the dialogue requesting access.

They can click on the page properties and edit the page that way, they can also check in their changes and publish.

They can also grant and change permissions for other users for the site, don't understand how someone can have full control but still get request access when they edit a page?

Checked the document library permissions and the users has

    Permission levels given to xxxx

    View Only
    Given through the "Viewers" group.
    Full Control
Given through the "xxxx Users" group.

Answers

  • create a copy of that page (keep it as a backup).

Now append the page url with ?contents=1 (e.g. http://<sitename>/pages/page.aspx?contents=1)

Start closing each web part at a time and see if you find any web part creating issue.

    • Check the permissions on the page layout used for that page, whether its published properly also try to change the page layout and re-produce the error
    • Check for any permission issues on the master page used for this page
    • Also, if there is any WebPart in the page. Try to remove those WebPart(s) and see whether if fixes the problem

  • Hi VindaRosa,

Do all the pages have the issue?

Please try to remove all web parts in the page and test whether issue occurs. If not, please access CA > select your web application that you want to make this change on –> select ‘Web Part Security’ —> scroll down to ‘Scriptable Web Parts’ and –> select ‘Allows contributors to add or edit scriptable Web Parts’ –> click OK.

Please access the library the page in, and check if the library stops inheriting permissions from its parent.

Please try to reproduce the issue and provide more detailed error messages in ULS logs.

An even better way to get the real SharePoint error from the ULS logs:

Check for any permission issues on the master page used for this page

  • Hi Dean,

Yes all pages have the issue and user can't create pages in the document library, the library inherits its permissions from the parent.

I've added the Allows contributors to add or edit scriptable Web Parts’ and this hasn't rectified the issue.

I will look into the uls log and see if i can find anything.

  • Hi Vinda,

Is there any update? Did you view ULS logs?

  • There doesn't appear to be anything relevant in the uls log.

  • Please check the permissions on the page layout.

    Can you also check

    1. if you are able to open "Page layouts and site templates” in site settings of the site?

    2. If the user is able to create new pages from "New" dropdown menu in the pages library.

If an error occurs, it could be because of the PublishingWeb’s properties set to null.

  • I can open "Page layouts and site templates”

The user gets a request permission dialogue when they try to create a page.
