listitem does not allow selectionitempattern

I have created an app where I have listitems, but for some reason I am unable to support selectionitempattern on the listitems. If anyone has an idea on what the reason could be, please help

Certain Controls support this but it appears this is only in WPF:

It appears the ListItem and DataItem do in WPF as well but not Metro:
