  • Hi reddy.ravindar,

    Welcome to MSDN forum.

To install the build tools, you need to download the installation caches on the environment with Internet, and then copy them to your server to install it. Please follow the steps:

-- On the environment with a network

#1, download the build tool from official website

#2, Run CMD, open the path which the tool locates at.

#3, Type and run the below command

    vs_buildtools.exe --layout C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\BuildTooloffline\cache --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.ManagedDesktopBuildTools

Note: you could refer more from command-line parameters,

and the Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.ManagedDesktopBuildTools means the .Net desktop build tools workload, please refer more workload IDs from here, you could download the workloads you need.

-- On the environment without network

#1, Run CMD, open the path which the tools locates

#2, Type and run the command below, it will install the build tools offline

    vs_buildtools.exe --installPath C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\MSbuild --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.ManagedDesktopBuildTools

    Any feedback will be expected.

    Best Regards,

    Dylan

  • Hi Dylan,

I have followed the steps which is mentioned above, but while installing on 'On the environment without network', I am getting access denied error, could you please check is this something related to 'offline installer' files or my windows machine access issue?.

    attaching the screen-shot here.

    Thanks

  • Hi reddy.ravindar,

    Thank you for feedback.

When the installer runs, it will write cache data into this directory

Please have a try to run CMD as administrator, then re-install it on your remote machine.

If it persists, please check if the user has permission to install application on your remote machine.

    Any feedback will be expected.

    Best Regards,

    Dylan

  • Hi reddy.ravindar,

    Thank you for feedback.

Did you select the workload which you didn't download before? The "Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.ManagedDesktopBuildTools" just represents .Net Desktop workload. If you want to install other modules, you need to add specified ID to download them.

    For example:

Download Azure development and C++ development:

    vs_buildtools.exe --layout C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\BuildTooloffline\cache --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.AzureBuildTools --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.VCTools

Install Azure development and C++ development:

    vs_buildtools.exe --installPath C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\MSbuild --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.AzureBuildTools --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.VCTools

    Looking forward to your feedback.

    Best Regards,

    Dylan

  • Hi Dylan,

Thanks for your quick feedback, actually I want to get MS build tool alone to compile the code.

Does initial steps which shown below won't work for MS Build tool alone?

    vs_buildtools.exe --layout C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\BuildTooloffline\cache --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.ManagedDesktopBuildTools

else let me know what 'layout' need to download?.

    Thanks,

    Ravindar Reddy

  • Hi Ravindar Reddy,

No, the initial step works for MSbuild tool alone.

Could you share the type of your project? And I will recommend corresponding workload with you.

    Best Regards,

    Dylan
