I can not create a driver project in VS 2019 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just installed VS 2019 Community and WDK 1903.

In the 'Create new project' dialog, there is no option to create a diver (neither KMDF or UMDF).

The only help I find online mention some different dialog, with a left pane.

In VS 2019 I can select language, platform, and project type. But no options for driver project are listed there.

I restarted VS and then, the computer. Without success.

What am I missing or doing wrong?

    Sincerely.

  • Hi Brian,

    Welcome to MSDN forum.

For your requirement, you could choose C++,  Windows, Driver under the “Language”, “Platform” and “Project type” list respectively and you will not miss it like the picture below.

Also, to install WDK successfully, please make sure to select (might be default) and install the certain plugin from the WDK installation wizard popup dialog box.

You could also refer more suggestions or information from this link.

    Hope this could help you.

    Best Regards,

    Tianyu

  • Hi Tianyu and thanks for your reply.

The problem was, I didn't get the 'Driver' option under 'Project type'.

I uninstalled the WDK and ran the install again.

I don't know if it is because this time I check some checkbox for WDK help.
What matters is, the driver option is there now and I can create a driver projects from templates.

Thank you very much and may you have a good weekend :)

    Regards.

  • Sometimes the WDK .vsix does not install automatically. Try to locate it and install manually.

Also see this post for possible issues with the WDK.

  • Hi Brian,

    Thank you for your feedback.

We are glad to hear that you have resolved this issue.

Usually, WDK installation wizard will help to select and install the plugin by default and this makes WDK work well in VS.

If possible, could you please mark your solution as answer, so that other members who encounter the similar issue could refer this thread and get more help.

    Have a nice day : )

    Best Regards,
