My Hotmail account has been hacked and my contact list stolen and used to send disgusting emails

  • My hotmail account has been hacked and all my contacts stolen. Someone is sending viagra links through my email address to everyone and causing a virus to spread through their computers from I understand. This just happened this morning. What am I supposed to do? How to I get this to stop? Why isn't Hotmail upping their security structures? Do I need to delete my account?

    Thank you,

    Kari Mitchell

  • This happened to me today. They got into my e-mail, facebook page and my phone. No help from hotmail so far even though I have sent several e-mails to them. They sent an e-mail to my contacts telling them I was mugged in the UK and needed money. One contact got the Western union info out of them and when I contacted WU they told me they could do NOTHING!!!! I just wish I could get an answer. They redirected all of my alternate e-mails to.

  • My main question is:  Did they hack into my on-line account or into my computer?  I think it was my on-line e-mail account.  I did not see any unusual activity running on my computer.  I ran Spybot S&D, Security Essentials, Panda & Norton and found nothing on my computer.  I installed & ran Ad-Aware and found "5" problems which were either removed or quaranteed.

This is happening to lots of people including me.  There is no purpose to close an account that you can still get into.  Just change the password to something more difficult to get into.  The problem is that the damage has been done.  All of the people on your contact list can now see who is on your list.  That can be a big problem for certain people.  Lawyers are supposed to keep things confidential. Unfortunately we cannot take back the mail that was sent.   It may have been advertising a website but it caused a lot more damage by sending out your contact list.

  • So what has happened since your posting of May 13th 2010?  Has more email been sent to your contacts using your address as the sender?  I'm trying to learn what is in store for me.  I was hacked yesterday.

    Thanks,  Funfotos

  • I'm not sure about everyone else, but I realized that my account had been hacked when my partner called me and asked me why I was sending him, my old boss, my ex-boyfriend and our pediatrician a link to viagra! Not only am I mortified, but I'm terrified because it's clear that my contact list has been hijacked, but I don't know if whomever did this actually went through my old e-mails and found private information that I may not even remember being in there. Upon reflection, my bad, but I keep my password current enough that I never thought this would happen and I NEVER give my password out, EVER! Btw, I called the MS consumer support line and was briskly informed that as I was not using Hotmail Plus, my only venue for support was their Hotmail Online Help. I have now sent 5 e-mails to them and haven't received a single response. I honestly am near tears. I'm not sure if there is a way to copy all of my contacts to another database, and possibly send a group apology letter, or copy the contacts and the e-mails and shut the actual account down. If ANYONE out there can provide some assistance, like in this millennium, I would be more than grateful.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi A.   I'm sure that you can find another e-mail provider % transfer your contacts, send apologies, etc.  Any account can get hacked and I'm sure the others do to.  Can I ask a question?  I now see that if I log into my account on line via hotmail.com and then click logout, I see this:

We couldn't sign you out of these sites:

      Explore Site
Have you seen this?  Please go on line, log into and out of your ACCOUNT AND SEE IF YOU HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.  Also, on my computer when I hit the start button I saw some kind of new Yahoo progran was installed.  I hit uninstall but don't know if that really worked.  I searched my computer, did not find a yahoo program installed but there are lots of files with Yahoo in the name.  I'm thinking about removing them all but don't know if that will hurt my computer in other ways.
Please write back to let me know what you've found.

  • I simply sent a email to all contacts with the subject line "From the Real Chris - my email has been phished and apoligize for the unautorized emails sent to you.  In the body I just wrote that any future corespondence from me would have "from the Real Chris" in the subject line and again apoligized.  Most people understand and this is pretty widespread from what I gather...

  • My account was hacked last week, Nov 4th sending an email to all in my contacts list.  The email said, " I am stranded in a foreign country, my cash and credit cards were stolen, the hotel won't release me and my flight is due to leave anytime now".  Since then, I cannot sign in or change my password and the Help center keeps looping me around to the same "try this and try that" stuff.  The problem is, they are sending out an email to the hackers to change my account password.  Please help.  I set up this new account to recieve a reset password for the old account:

Also avoid sharing your password security and to easily regain hacked yahoo email account, you have to set recovery details inside your email profile, and never forget them. • Have you found a solution?? My email was hacked into and the hacker changed my password. I set the account up so long ago that I do not remember what my security question was. I went thru the validation process and now they say that I did not provide enough info to validate my account. Any suggestions on getting this resolved. This is my business email and all my customer contacts are on there. It has been 2 weeks since I started the process of validating my account and it is still not resolved.

  • Solution:

not perfect but it solves the problem

    1) open a new email account (I used yahoo)

    2) yahoo will provide you with the option to import your contacts from hotmail into your new yahoo email account.

    3) go back to hotmail and delete your entire contact list.  (once I deleted my contacts the virus had addresses to send to)

    4) forward your hotmail address to your yahoo address.  this will send all mail from your INBOX to your new account.  junk mai will not be forwarded.

?)  you can try to load the contacts back into hotmail (I was so happy to have the problem over that I didn't want to mess with sucess).
suggest you put your new yahoo address into your origional hotmail contact list and wait to see if hotmail sends spam to your new account.
the problem with this is how long do you wait.  i know when and from who I got the virus.  it sat dormant in my system for over 6 months before it acted up.
    good luck

  • I can't get into the email address that was hacked because they changed my password and the email address send the reset to. I am now on my second validation request. I have provided as much info as I can including calling my contacts to send an email to the email address to reinstate it. Does anyone have other ideas. Thanks for info though.
