Can you do KPI trends in Tabular?

    Question

  • Can I do KPI Trends in Tabular?  Am using SQL Server 2014.  When I right click a measure to create a KPI I don't see anything in the dialog that has to do with Trend.

Any help or links to good documentation are appreciated.

  • The answer is no. The Trend functionality only exists in SSAS mulit-dimensional. Tabular KPIs only let you calculate a current status.

  • Yes, first create a measure in a fact table like SalesAmount or better compute Profit margin as a ratio/percentage.

Right-click on the Measure and there will be an option for KPIs. The KPI screen will prompt for target and the range f highs and lows. You can even use another related table to compare the actual to target. Pick your visuals and process data.

  • So I have three KPIs in my model.  For each I followed your instructions.  I don't see trend, just value, goal and status.

Are you sure Trend is available in Tabular 2014.  I remember creating in multidimensional with 2008 several years ago.

Is there an option I need to select.  Does Trend only work on certain types of measure?

  • Sorry, did not read completely that you wanted the Trend. Darren is correct, it exists with cubes bot not with Tabular.
