Outlook Addin working with Office 2013-2010-2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am developing an Outlook Addin with VSTO and it must be deployed on Outlook 2007-2010-2013.

I am a bit confused about supporting different versions of Outlook.

Can I manage this with a single project or I have to develop different projects referencing different Outlook version?

Right now my project is developed with Visual Studio 2010, it is a 2010 Addin and it targets .NET Framework 4.0 and Visual Studio for Office Runtime 4.0. Does it work in Office 2007 and Office 2013 on the assumption that:

    - VSTOR 4.0 is installed on the client machine

    - Only Office 2007 Object Model functions and methods are used, not one introduced in later versions

  • It would probably be better to develop under Outlook 2007, but if the PIA's are embedded and no later members of the object model are used it should work. Have you tried it?

I usually use shared addins for that, developed under the lowest common denominator version, where I don't have to deal with the VSTO infrastructure..
