Why do I get Auto-generated Permission Level bcf38884-0974-4236-a02e-b7cf1497a2d2 instead of actual permission level name. RRS feed

  • Hi,

I am using the sharepoint web services 3.0, I need to assign permissions to a list, for this I use the permissions.asmx web service.

In order to obtain the mask for a permission level like: Contribute, Read, Restricted Read, Manage Hierarchy, I use the method GetPermissionCollection to obtain the mask of a group that already has the desired permission level like explained in this post:

The problem is that for some permission levels like: Restricted Read, Manage Hierarchy, and any other permission level created by the user I get an Auto-generated Permission Level bcf38884-0974-4236-a02e-b7cf1497a2d2 instead of the correct name.  Also, I see that sharepoint didn't use the mask I passed, for example I passed 2129075183 for Manage Hierarchy, but it arrives to sharepoint as 2129075199

Also, I see the following message in Sharepoint UI, when I wnat to add a new user permission to the list:
Auto-generated Permission Level bcf38884-0974-4236-a02e-b7cf1497a2d2 - This permission level is automatically generated when the obsolete SPPermissionCollection class is used

    Any help will be appreciated.
