Unable to join server to farm using config. wizard after uninstall Office Web Apps

    Question

  • Hello All,

I have 2 servers running Sharepoint Foundation, and i wanted to install Sharepoint Search Server Express 2010, but to do that i had to uninstall Office web apps. So i found some info and i did uninstall Office Web apps on both servers, installed search server 2010 but when i try to connect the server back to the farm i get the following error:

Here is the error log i pulled:

Does anyone have any ideas on what might be the cause here? I re installed Office Web Apps on both servers i thought that might have been the issue but no good on that.

Thank you!!! Please let me know if you need any additional information on this.

  • Hi.

Did you run the config wizard on the server still in the farm after uninstalling office web apps? That could be the cause.

  • Office web apps removes the server from the farm i thought. Not really sure what you mean.

I uninstalled OWA from both servers, then i ran the config wizard to rejoin it.

One more error block from the log:

Openning configdb so that I can join it at server XXXXXX database Sharepoint_Config in farm mode

I am so lost, i have been searching everywhere for error similiar to mine but i haven't found anything.

    Any other ideas? Thank you!!!!

  • Hi.

This is a very likely cause:

Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: The current server cannot be joined to this farm because the set of installed products does not match the products installed in the farm

If the versions and updates don't exactly match between the farm and the server you want to add to the farm, then you will see this error.
Check what you have installed in the farm, SP, CU's, LP's and add ons such as Office Web Apps. When they match exactly, try again and it should be able to join.

  • How can i check exactly what i have installed in the Farm?

I'm doing windows update on the main server now, it's weird because the only thing i uninstalled was the office web apps. I reinstalled it but it still won't connect.
