Search for User by Domain Account Name

    Question

  • I'm trying to search for Skype users by their domain account names instead of email addresses.  If I knew their email addresses, I'd find them with a search query like the ones in the examples:

    GET https://lyncweb.contoso.com/ucwa/oauth/v1/applications/101/people/search?query=sarad@contoso.com&limit=3 HTTP/1.1

But if I substitute the account name in the query, it finds nothing:

    GET https://lyncweb.contoso.com/ucwa/oauth/v1/applications/101/people/search?query=DomainUserSara&limit=3 HTTP/1.1

In the Skype GUI, I can enter just the account name and it finds them, so I believe this is possible but I haven't found anything in the REST API documentation about searches except by email address.

Does anyone know how to do this?

    Thanks!

  • Hmmm. Maybe Skype doesn't find them by account name.  Our account names are very similar to the user's real names, so maybe Skype is finding a matching name by doing a "fuzzy" search on the name field.  I see that if I have users "Smith, Tom", "Smith, Tim", and "Smith, Terry" one of whom has account name "SmithT" they will all be found when I type "SmithT" in the GUI.
