Farm upgrade to latest version RRS feed

  • Question

  • SharePoint farm needs to be patched to latest CU version - 15.0.5007.1000

The current configuration database version is 15.0.4701.1000. The farm consists of SharePoint & Project Server.  Can I download and install the above CU without any prerequisite.

  • Hi

You should backup all DB at first, it's important very much.

You already patch sp1, you should patch the cu last version.

    Then run configuration wizard.

    Good Luck.

  • Hi ghsajith,

Since you have an older version of SharePoint server(version 15.0.4701.1000), which already has SP1 installed, you can download and install the latest CU directly.

  • Hi ghsajith,

To apply thess cumulative updates, The pre-requisits is must having Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2013 Service Pack 1 installed , This update also fixes the issues that are described in the previous CUs .

Also, you must set a plan before applying this CU on the production enviormnet

1- apply these updates on you development environemnt to check if they are any impacts and it is stable .

2- apply these updates on the quality / staging environemnt for the same reasons above.

3- Backup all SharePoint Farm databases before applying on the production environment.

4- take snapshot of you VMs , if  the farm servers are virtual.

i hope this will help you.

  • The SharePoint 2013 portal consists of Document Management, Project Server  and BI etc. Few Site Collections are in SharePoint 2010 mode. The portal has 60 databases and approximate size is around 1 TB

Approximately how much time it will take to finish the Latest CU installation & Config Wizard. Is there any option to reduce the downtime.

  • Hi ghsajith,

There is not an exact time. Every environment is unique and includes different hardware capabilities and different site characteristics. The length of time needed to run an upgrade will vary greatly depending on your environment.

Before your update, you can try to follow below things to reduce the downtime.

    1. Make sure search crawl is stopped and unscheduled it.

    2. Make User Profile Sync is stopped.

    3. Stop (if any) custom jobs or Content Deployment.

    4. Stop the followings services on all servers in farm in the same order.

Disable the IISAdmin and SPTimerV4 service.

Shut down IIS Admin and Timer Services if they are running.

    Stop OSearch15.

    Stop SPSearchHostController.

Remember to restart the services in reverse order after the update.
