  • Question

  • Hi all:
Can anyone give me some hints on how can I set up the the Approver property of the MOSS out-of-box approval workflow programmatically? coz in my case, everytime the approver will be different(different people's manager).

  • Unfortunately the answer is no.. The Out-Of-The-Box workflow can not programmatically "look up" a users manager unless you customize it.
You will need to create a custom workflow and also use some custom actions.

The good news is the custom actions are free and can be downloaded from codeplex:

     http://www.codeplex.com/SPDActivities

You will notice that there is an action for looking up a user's manager.

You will need to use SharePoint Designer to create the workflow but it is basically a wizard for setting rules that trigger an action.
