officeJS Word add-in - Getting an error when try to access custom XML in the word document RRS feed

  • Question

  • After applying recent Microsoft Office patches, our Word add-in stopped working. It is throwing an error when it tries to access the Custom XML in the document.

    Code:7000,

    Error: You don't have sufficient permissions for this action.

    I am running Microsoft Word with Admin Access.

    Following code was working fine until I applied the office updates.

     var nsMyData = "http://www....org/app/data";
    Office.context.document.customXmlParts.getByNamespaceAsync(nsMyData, function (asyncResult) {
    if (asyncResult.status == "failed")
               // throw error
    else {
            // do something
     }
    });

    Platform and Office Add-in version:

    Windows 7, Word 2016 (16.0.4639.1000) , Api 1.2

  • We are having the exact same issue with our add-in. Doing the code in ScriptLab works, but when being executed from our add-in it fails since the last update in the Monthly channel. If I run the insider build, then it works. Rolling back to a previous version seems to fix the issue, but not a viable option for all our customers.
