  • We use Courier New for certain draft documents.  And certain parts of the document must be BOLD.

One of the users complained that all of the text is not bold, in particular :;.,

    If you paste this

    This ;:., test

    This ;:., test

into a word document you'll see the issue.  Is it us or?????

  • I think it's the Courier New font and how special characters like the colon and semicolon appear at large font sizes. Those two characters are always a little darker/thicker in this font, but your eye doesn't pick that up as easily until the size is around 14 pt and then they start to standout.

As for the size of the space marker, that always picks up its formatting from the previous character so in your example, only when the "s" in the word This is bolded does the space after become larger.

  • Just out of interest are you using Courier New because it is a monospaced font?

If so, consider using Lucida Sans Typewriter as an alternative.

If equal spacing for each character isn't a requirement then many other standard Windows fonts will be more easily readable.
