Customizing the contact hover card

    Question

  • Hi!

Is there a was to customize the contact hover card in outlook 2010. I'm writing a VOIP Application an i want to add a "call - button" to the hover card or use the existing one. A way to publish the users presence state (availiable/away...) would be nice too.

  • Outlook uses the installed TAPI devices to do calling (the telephony features exposed by default, not the advanced unified messaging features).  There's at least one open-source project that implements TAPI as a SIP client, and the Windows SDK has a TAPI implementation example.

  • Hello,

As far as I know, through Outlook object model, there is no a way to customize contact card. However, we could use Group Policy or the Office Customization Tool to customize Contact Card. For more information, please see this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981022. Here is a resource which might interest you.
