Access 2000 on Windows 7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

    I appreciate that Access 2000 is not supported on Win 7 but we have a legacy Access 2000 app which cannot be upgraded on short notice. The problem I have after replacing the win xp client pc with a win 7 pc that access 2000 db is running too slow. When I set the msaccess.exe to run in XP SP3 compatibility mode, then I get the following error on backend db;

    F:\MyDataFolder\MyData.MDB is not a valid path. Make sure that the pathname is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file residues.

    What is the best I can do to run Access 2000 db on win 7 please?

    Regards

Answers

  • Hi

    We have tried below which seems to have helped.

    1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engines\Jet 4.0
     Values set as below;
     MaxBufferSize 50000
     MaxLocksPerFile 500000

    2. Also have set all Jet/ACE related MaxBufferSize entries to 50000.

    We will give it a couple of days and see how it goes.

    Thanks

    Regards

  • Have you tried to run the app on a newer version of Access?

    Sometimes the transition is very easy with no problems and full functionality...

    But make a backup first!

  • Try...  Hold down the shift key while opening the file.  Keep holding until the file is completely open.  Check to see if there are any linked tables.  Note the name of the file it links to and find that file.  Once you have located that file you will need to relink.

    Microsoft no longer supports Access 2000 software but Access 2000 runs fine on Windows 7 (I think Windows 7 Business on 2 PCs at 1 of my clients).  AFAIK in our case, Access 2000 runs in "normal" mode and not XP mode.

    2. Have you checked anti-virus and firewall and allowed exceptions for Access? They may be the cause of the slowness!

    3. OTOH, you can have later versions of Access running the database in Access 2000 file format without too much trouble.  There are some minor problems, e.g. Calendar Control but on the whole later Access version + database in Access 2000 file format should be fine.
