Mac word file had an error and the contents got deleted, file's become read-only

Question

I have mac catalina, 2019 office. While I was restarting the computer, there was an notif that told me to save the word document before restarting. When I clicked on "save" the notif I got was "A file error has occured" the content in the file was erased and the file's become read-only. Is there a way for me to retrieve it's content?

Is this a Developer or End User issue? Meaning, are you writing code or are you just working in a document? If you are not a developer, you are on the wrong forum. With that said ...

If your document was save on OneDrive or DropBox or any other cloud based file system, you can probably recover a previous version on it.

The best and easiest recovery option though is from Time Machine, the built-in Mac backup program. Are you using it?
