I have an Excel spreadsheet that is a contacts list. Roughly 100 column headers.
I created an ootb contacts list in sharepoint and added all the custom fields that mimic the Excel spreadsheet. I did this so I can use the "Connect to Outlook". I know the custom fields will not show up in Outlook, but customer wanted to have access to the default fields in a contact list.
I want to import the data from the Excel to the SharePoint contact list, but what is the best way to do so?
There are roughly 5000 items in the excel spreadsheet.
Please go through this link:
And since there are 100 columns in your list I guess you need to select the specified cells and import it, but before you do that please make sure that the headers in the sharepoint list and the excel file matches
Hope the information helps!
Thanks & Regards, Chandra Shekhar
I have all headers match. My issue now is there as fields in Excel that have more than 255 characters and when importing the data to SharePoint the character limit is 255 so my data for these fileds is cut off.
- I open SharePoint list in Access
- Import Excel data by Appending to Existin Table.
I have tried making the SharePoint column datatype Multi line text but the import from Access overwrites the datatype to text.
