Microsoft ODBC Driver for Hive updated to version 0.9.2.0 RRS feed

  • Hi all,

I am pleased to announce that today we have released an update to the Microsoft ODBC Driver for Hive. The new version is 0.9.2.0. Please note that just like previous versions of this driver, this is still a preview release of the driver and should not be used with production workloads.

    How do I get it?

The new download replaces the previous download in the same location, so you can download the new version using the same process as before. You can download the driver directly from the Download Center, and can also access that same download page from the Downloads tile on your HDInsight dashboard. If you already have an older version installed you will need to uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs before installing the new version.

    What's new?

Version 0.9.2.0 of the driver now works exclusively with Hive Server 2, which means it has support for concurrent connections and queries and therefore does not have the concurrency limitations that were present in previous versions.

Support for Hive Server 2 is a significant improvement, but it does mean that you need the required server support in order to use this new version. Both the Windows Azure HDInsight Service  and the HDInsight Developer Preview have been recently updated to include Hive Server 2, so you just need to make sure you are using the latest versions of one of these. For the Azure service, clusters created after May 3, 2013 should have the required support. For the local developer installation, you need version 0.6.0.0 or later, which was also just released today.

Connecting with the new driver is basically the same as the old driver, even though the backend has changed. For Azure clusters, the basic connection parameters are the same as before. For local developer installations, you will use port 10001 instead of 10000. See the troubleshooting steps for more details.

    What if something doesn't work?
Check out the troubleshooting steps here on the forum, if that doesn't resolve your problem please post a new thread with details.

    Thanks!
