Install ActiveX in Windows 7

  • Hi everybody,

I'm developing an ActiveX plugin for IE. The AxctiveX object is embedded into the html page, and IE suppose to install it if the user confirms. It works perfectly on Windows XP, but fails silently on Windows 7.

On Windows 7, the UAC message box appears, and after I click Yes to allow the installation nothing happens next (the activeX doesn't get registered).

I've read that this behavior is due to the fact that IE is being ran with low integrity (protected mode) so it cannot register the ocx.

Can this issue be solved without running IE in elevated mode? I can't believe that all ActiveX controls can't be installed by average IE users (who doesn't know how to run in elevated mode or disable UAC).

Edit: Forgot to mention that I'm installing using cab file, and the cab is digitally signed.

    I will appreciate your input,

    Shlomi Fruchter
