Windows cannot find '(null)' error for IE 6

  • I'm writing this on behalf of someone I know who needs help with this problem. I been trying to find answers for him but with no prevail. Anyway.. here's the situation. When he tries to type in links.. he always gets an error saying the following:

Windows cannot find '(null)'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button and press search.

Now I wish to point out several things.. he hasn't installed anything that could cause this error.. no security updates or trying to get IE 7. This seems to have just happened out of the blue and can't seem to get rid of it. Any suggestions/ideas on how to resolve this problem?

I would very much appreciate it, and so would the person I know. I thank you in advanced as well as apologize if this is in the wrong section.
