Using SSL for SQL server with multiple instances

    Pertanyaan

  • Hello,

If there are more than one instance (say 3 or 4 instances of SQL2k12 or above), what is the best way to bind the SSL certificate to those services?

Typically, only one SSL certificate is issued to a common name of the concerned SQL server. However, if there are multiple instances running on the same server, wondering whether we can bind the same SSL to those multiple instances or we need to think about alternatives such as using subject name alternatives etc.?

Your input will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Dear vr123,

When these instances are installed on the same server, they should can use the same SSL certificate. On the same machine, the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) is same.

The method using subject name alternatives you mentioned is a method which meets the requirement for one certificate, multiple server.

    Best Regards,
