File>Import? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

I am new to Ms Expression Web4.

For som time I have worked with a number of texts (not web pages!) in Word (docx) which I now want to transfer to a new web page, and hopefully preserve formatting - if possible.

I have read in some guides that I should open the MsEW4, and then choose File > Import.

BUT, this command is not available because it is dyed gray!

So how do I access the File>Import?

    Grateful for tips!

  • File -> Import only works if you have created a website and are working in it.  It is greyed out if you are not working in a website.

Its function is simply to put a copy of that file into your website.  It has nothing to do with converting Word to proper HTML and CSS.

Frankly, Word to HTML is best done by copying the text into the page and doing your own formatting.  There is no easy way, and attempts to use Word's idea of HTML and formatting result in very non-standard markup and styles that mean nothing to a browser.

The closest you can get is to use Word's Save As  and choose "Web Page, Filtered", which will clean out a lot of the Word-specific styling.  It will not keep all your formatting.
