expression web 2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am a beginner trying to create a website. I took a class showing me how to buy a domain, aquire a server and how to publish a web site, all of which I succeeded in doing. When I took the class, the website we created was in Frontpage, since then I purchased an expression web 2 program and tried to publish changes, basically all I succeeded in doing was making the phrase "website cannot be displayed" on the opening screen appear. I have read the owners manual and still I can not resolve the problem, can anyone help?

  • You publish exactly the same way with EW 2 that you did with FrontPage.

Are you being prompted for the user name and password when you try to publish?

Are you trying to publish using the http:// address or the ftp:// address ?

  • Yes I was successful at logging in using username and password. I am trying to publish using FTP:// I am getting error messages saying there is a conflic of some sort. I get a split screen, one side says local website, there other says remote website. When I click publish, I get an error message that says "cannot find webserver at "mywebsite" on port 21
When I try to use HTTP:// I get an error message that says "does not appear to have windows share points installed"

  • Port 21 errors are usually either because your firewall is blocking EW or you need to switch modes see http://by-expression.com/content/faq.aspx#ftp4
