managed list

    Question

  • Is there any way to transfer the managed list of websites in Expression Web 4 with the login credentials to my new computer?  I have about 50 websites that I manage and so if there is a file I can transfer, it would save a lot of time.

  • I find that EW4 stores publishing credentials in Windows Credential Manager.  That's not a flat file you could transfer elsewhere, and if you backed it up and tried to restore it on another PC, it contains credentials other than those for Expression Web websites.  I'm not sure if the list of managed websites would be any easier to find - some things similar to that are stored in the registry.

I think you are stuck with the tedious task of going though your sites one by one and opening them and recreating the publishing destinations.

  • The configuration data (publishing destinations, usernames, etc) for websites is stored in folders at
    %Appdata%\Microsoft\Expression\Web 4\SiteData
These can be copied to the new PC.
As Kathy said, passwords are stored elsewhere in encrypred form and will have to be added to the publishing dialogues manually.
