StartRolesOperation - East US - The server encountered an internal error. Please retry the request RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Azure Team,

We encounter this problem most of the time. And today very badly in one of my cloud service.

We have a virtual network, we have 3 cloud service and 50 vms per cloud service.

So we have 150 vms in total, in which the all the vms in cloud service 1 and 2 is getting started fastly.

Whereas cloud service 3 startup is failing most of the time with the below message.

The server encountered an internal error. Please retry the request

But the shutdownroles operation is working fine.

We are using REST API for StartRoles operation.

We are following the below api

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn469419.aspx

Kindly advice why is this happening.

We have experienced the same in cloud service 2 also few days...but not frequently like cloud service 3.

Most of the times it is a failure case.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Hi Varun,

The server encountered an internal error occur with multiple reasons, most of the time it would happen due to below error " Windows Azure is currently performing an operation on this deployment that requires exclusive access" its a ConflictError. In a cloud service you can't start a two VMs parallel, you need to start operation one after the other. This could be one of the cause,to know what is the exact cause for your issue, please create a support ticket with operation ID ( which you can see at the time of internal error ).

  • Hi Mahendranath,

    Thanks for replying,

We are aware of these conflict error.

That is why we make a management service call and check if there is any operation in progress.

if there is no operation going on, then we submit a request to start roles.

We are not encountering a conflict error.

Let me know how to create a support ticket.

    Thanks & Regards,
