Excel: conditional formatting, icon sets, pie graph style RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does anyone know how to change the icon set [pie graph style] colour from black and white to blue.  I am using Excel 2007.

    Greatly appreciated. Sue

  • You can create your own icons and use this in a Form/ Report in Access with an Image Control.

You need some additional coding, but that might be a workaround you can work with.

I believe I made a demo some time ago called RatingDemo, wich simulate rating of customers in a Form with stars, see below link:

  • You can check this thread out by Andy Pope, Mimic 2007 Conditional Formatting Icons:

    http://www.andypope.info/tips/tip011.htm

In other words, I am not sure you can change the build-in Icons of Excel 2007 itself, but you can mimic them as described in above thread.

    Hope this helps,

Thank you for responding. I want to achieve the following: 4 = whole blue filled colour circle, 3= 3/4 filled blue and 1/4 light blue, 2= 1/2 blue and 1/2 light blue etc.  The iconset from the conditional formatting gives me just this and works really well, however, it's in Blackd and white and I don't know how to change the colour.  I'm not a programmer and wouldn't know where to begin.

  • Hi Sue,

I think, I have to give you the sad news, that it's not possible to change the Icons, see below thread:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb407306%28v=office.11%29.aspx

    It states:

You cannot add your own icons in this release of Excel. However, as you have seen, there are a large number of icons to choose from so this should not be an issue.

I am not sure the thread using Mimic is going to help much, as you need to find a Symbol which is a Blue version of the Pie chart you need.

  • Hi

I would have used Wingdings if they had such an icon, but I couldn't find any.  I had a feeling that it wasn't going to be possible to change the colour and you have confirmed same.

I really wanted to do the conditional formatting with the pie graph style in Access but that's even more restricted.  Is there a way I can make my own symbols?
