Small Basic Help RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello! Just like most people I am eager to learn programming. But, I want to make an online chatting program in Small Basic that will be hosted through a website I have already created. I really need help as I have no clue on how to start the 'online hosting' part. I want it to be able to be hosted online and for users to connect to each other and send each other messages. It would be much appreciated if I could get an example that I could modify or just the code for it! Thanks! :)

  • BrandonFrost1990,

Are you using Small Basic?  I think that's difficult to make chatting program with Small Basic.

  • Unfortunately this is all but impossible in SmallBasic. There are third party plug-in's that allow you to do peer-peer and client-sever communications in SmallBasic, but SB is mostly designed as a PC compiler that produces PC native code. Nothing the web-browsers can deal with.

I would suggest JavaScript as an alternative. It isn't as friendly as SB, but it is designed from the ground up to work from web browsers.

A good place to get started is http://www.codecademy.com/ and https://www.khanacademy.org/

  • Could remember having seen something like that, take a look here:

Showcase your Small Basic programs here (part V)

and see 'Chat Program' by Zock77 , ID: nnb121-0

I've never tested, so ... ???.  Just an idea.

Maybe also try Forum search for 'chat' or similar.
