Alternative to the Outlook Mail REST API RRS feed

  • Question

  • The Outlook REST API includes the following subsets to allow access to users' mailbox data in Office 365, Hotmail.com, Live.com, MSN.com, Outlook.com, and Passport.com.

If our app accesses Outlook.com mailbox data, it should handle scenarios where the user's mailbox has not yet been enabled for the Outlook REST API, <g class="gr_ gr_178 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="178" id="178">according</g> API documentation.

    The questions are:

     - do you have a timeline when all users would be migrated under REST API

I was wondering what are recommended alternatives to handle above scenario (e.g. error MailboxNotEnabledForRESTAPI)

    Thank you.

  • Hi gkhominsky,

There is no such timeline , if mailbox has not yet been enabled for the Outlook REST API , you will receive the error :

    HTTP error: 404
    Error code: MailboxNotEnabledForRESTAPI or MailboxNotSupportedForRESTAPI
Error message: “REST API is not yet supported for this mailbox.

You could parse the response and show the error message to user .

To test your app accessing data on Outlook.com mailboxes that have already been enabled, you can request a new, enabled Outlook.com developer preview account by emailing outlookdev@microsoft.com.
