virtualearth location returning wrong location/lat/long and saying only location. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All.

I am using the virtual earth, REST, V1, Locations? URL.

    Values passed:  countryRegion=US , adminDistrict=OH , locality= ORRVILLE , postalCode=44667 , addressLine=601 COMMERCE DR.

It returns lat/long 41.249044/-82.569291 as an exact match.

    It should have returned 40.862030/-81.770763

The bad lat/long is a location is actually 5 COMMERCE DR, NORWALK, OH 44857

Does anyone know why it's in the wrong zipcode, wrong city, and wrong building number and says it's an exact match?  The country, state, and street name are correct.

  • According to the USPS, address "601 commerce DR, Orrville, OH" does not exist. The Bing Maps API, found "601 Commerce Dr, Norwalk, OH" as a high confidence match at the address level. Note, the Bing Maps API's never say its an exact match, even when it is. They provide confidence level based on the input. The input you provided was an address that doesn't exist according to USPS, but it found an address that was very similar but in a different city in the same state. It is very common for people to enter an incorrect city for an address, as such, since there is an exact match on the address line and city portion of the request, it is considered a high confidence result.
